Technophobia is costing your business time and money!

Working away from the office is slowly becoming the norm thanks to flexible working and smaller management teams. However, an article published today revealed that thanks to technophobia 80% of 1000 middle managers in the UK felt they weren’t offered sufficient technology to enable them to work away from the office.

The report also revealed some very dis-pleasing financial figures for the UK economy;

–          Enabling employees to work from home would save £4.1bn a year in lost time

–          The ability to work remotely could also save a further £1.9bn a year

This problem is essentially caused by the fact that external connectivity is simply not good enough, meaning that after an external meeting a manager may have to travel back to the office to complete follow up tasks or even wait until the next day.

So why isn’t this technology being implemented?

Well, it seems that technophobia is the cause. The report tells us that the biggest barrier is trust when it comes to companies implementing and using new technologies such as mobile apps and Cloud Computing / SaaS (software as a service).  25% of the employers interviewed said that they are deterred from using new technologies due to issues of trust, responsibility and readiness for change.

This finding is in stark contrast to one further article published today, on the same website, that explained that HR salaries are set to rise by 10% in 2014 due to an increase in investment in HR departments for the use of training and development. We think, this increase in investment could be very useful if channelled into remote working technologies and the necessary training.

Managers that no longer have to be stuck at their computer to perform well, are free to meet new clients, get face to face relationships back up and running and can also work flexibly to improve their health and wellbeing. As well as saving money and time, talent retention is positively affected too…what have you got to lose?

If you’re worried about data safety, we’ve written a great article explaining just why your data is in good hands when it comes to SaaS companies such as ourselves.

Alternatively, if you’re worried that implementing such technologies is a big furore that you could do without, let us show you how easy it can be.
